About the event

Dear All ,

We are very pleased to confirm that the 5th Annual Great Marlow School Boat Club Awards Dinner will be held at the Crowne Plaza Marlow on Tuesday 17th July. The invitation is currently extended to all rowers from Year 8 to Year 13 and their parents plus special guests who have had some involvement with the Club over the years. Tickets are now available at £30.00 per person. For those of you who have attended before, you will note the slight increase in the ticket price. This is simply to cover the minimal increase in the cost of the meal. The Crowne Plaza have worked very hard with us this year to ensure that they keep the costs as low as they can for a 2 course served meal in a venue that is local to us.

All rowers will shortly receive their formal invitation by post inviting them and their guests to what is THEIR awards dinner. However, with the date only a few weeks away we wanted to communicate by email to you in the first instance. We know that the date has always been on the rowing calendar and on the GMSBC website but we can now give you some further details on how to book and the format of the evening.

Arrival is from 7pm with a cash bar available in the foyer of the Wintergarden Suite. As many of you know, it does get very busy at the bar so we would recommend an early arrival! We also recommend that you perhaps make your way to the main hotel bar before entering the banqueting suite as this may be slightly quicker too!

  • Dinner will be served at 7.45pm
  • Guest speaker followed by the presentation of the awards
  • The evening should finish by 10.30pm
  • Dress code is smart

Now in it’s 5th year, the Awards Dinner is an evening where we can all celebrate the tremendous hard work and commitment that the rowers of all ages show in their rowing and towards their crew mates and coaches. It is also a lovely way to get to know everyone a little better and for the club to acknowledge the support that the parents give throughout to the year. All year groups from Year 8 to 13 will be recognised and we have been so pleased to see over 200 guests at the last 4 dinners.

This year we are proud to announce that our guest speaker is Taylor Ritzel who is travelling from the USA to join us! Originally from Colorado, Taylor began rowing at Yale, winning three NCAA Championships as part of the Varsity Women’s 8+ and serving as Captain of the team her senior year. She then went on to win an Under-23 World Championship, two Senior World Championships and the 2012 Olympic Games as part of the US Women’s 8+.

We do have to give final numbers to the Crowne Plaza fairly soon and therefore we would request that you return your form and payment to us by Friday 29th June. A booking form is attached and you can email this and pay online or send it to Resources.

Once again, we will make every effort to seat people at tables as requested. They are generally tables of ten and we know that the rowers like to sit with their crews. If this is required, please do let us know (there is a space on the booking form). We cannot guarantee but it has never proven to be a problem in the past.

FINALLY, if you have any questions at all please do let us know. This is the most wonderful evening for all rowers and their families and we hope to show Taylor Ritzel that Great Marlow School Boat Club is one to look out for!!

This is also a reminder to encourage as many people to sell their raffle tickets before the evening. You should be seeing these arrive home in an envelope to be returned to school or directly to Joanna by the 13th July. Please let Joanna Honey - jhsalesmarketing@aol.com - know if you need any more as we do have some spares.

Thank you.
