Welcome to Great Marlow School Boat Club

Great Marlow School Boat Club has over 100 rowers from year 8 to year 13. The objective of the club is to ensure that every student at Great Marlow School has access to the sport of rowing regardless of their ability or background.

Over the last few years our rowers have competed at both National and International level with medals of all colours won across all year groups. In 2018 the Senior Boys Four represented England, winning two gold medals for their country at the home internationals in Cork.

Previous successes have included gold medals at British Championships, GB France and National Schools regatta with even more success at Inter-regional regatta, Marlow international, Schools Head of the River and many, many more.

At Great Marlow School Boat Club we offer all students, of all abilities the opportunity to enjoy competitive and inclusive rowing. We seek to encourage students to maintain high levels of exercise and to gain enjoyment from participation in sport. The benefit of exercise and commitment to routine is considered a key benefit for students in their education both at Great Marlow School and beyond. Our GMSBC alumni is growing with many rowers continuing to participate in the sport years after leaving school and the value of the support that both they and the local community gives to Great Marlow School Boat Club cannot be underestimated as the legacy of rowing continues to grow over the years.

Mrs Geralyn Wilson, former Headteacher of Great Marlow School:

Rowing builds character as well as mental and physical discipline but the sport is unique in building self-confidence and making rowers adaptable, agreeable and great communicators. Rowing offers a healthy social environment and a great team environment too. To be successful at the sport you have to be committed, you have to have discipline and you have to have passion and truly want to row and our students and staff demonstrate these qualities consistently throughout each rowing season.”

Quotes from parents:

“My son started rowing when he joined the school in Year 7 and has thoroughly enjoyed being part of the GMS rowing crew – there is a great team spirit and camaraderie among the boys and the coaches do a fantastic job!”

“Rowing at Great Marlow gives the pupils the chance to participate in a great sport, it builds confidence, creates a sense of working as a team and is proven to support academic success by improving concentration and a desire to try that bit harder to succeed.  My son has been rowing for 3 years now and loves it especially when they win. I would recommend rowing to any child!”
